Recovery day 2:
We're still kicking. So I was reading some of my blog just for fun and realized how horrific my spelling has been and honestly I don't care, so I am sorry but I am exhausted and correcting these mistakes is just not a priority right now. That feels a little better now onto our day. Today was a great day for Skyler. We were visited by His surgeon first thing this morning, who was very very impressed with Skylers progress. He was very happy to hear that Skyler had been up and moving around, he said his color was good and that Skyler was coming along better than expected for someone who had experienced that surgery. He took his first walk at 930 and this was probably the biggest challenge of the day. After being in bed all night his body was stiff and he did not even want to attempt to move. Here at Primary Childrens Medical Center we believe in bribery. So, we promised him if he got up and walked to just outside the door (15 ft.) that he could get a prize. We were able to get him up and walking he made it to the door, and back to his bed. Then he needed some extra pain meds so he got some valium and passed out.
All of his vitals have been very good. They never adjusted his pain meds and his drowsiness faded which means that he hasn't been having problems with his Oxygen levels. This is great!
We have been visited by lots and lots of different specialist here at the hospital, it is just amazing. Everyone here is just completly focused on Skyler and making him happy can comfortable.

Like I said he wasn't drowsy anymore so he got to get out some of his new activities that his visitors have been bringing him. He colored and played games all morning and there was even a couple smiles.

The nursing staff was so impressed by Skyler that they told him he was ready to go on a ride in a wheelchair if he felt up to it. Skyler didn't even hesitate he is so tired of being stuck in bed. So around 1130 he got up and walked out into the hall to get in his chair!!!

we rolled over to the playroom and it was love at first sight with the fuzball table. He beat me twice and then I had to convience him that we had to go back to our room which I think was the hardest part of our little outing. He is so tired of being in bed but the truth is once he is back in bed he is comfortable and happy. For our first outing he was amazing I wasn't sure what to expect with him sitting up for that long and with all the tubes in transport but it was fun and comforting to see him in a more "normal" setting. He walked back and got up in bed. When we go for our little outings they have to unplug all his little sensors and that includes his stomach tube. They decided to keep it unplugged just to see how he handled it. He made it 6 hours before he started to have a bit of a stomach ache which was Great, it meant that things were starting to wake up and that it wouldn't be long before he could have it removed!!!

After all that hard work he needed a nap so he took a nice little nap and relaxed for a bit. As soon as he woke up he wanted to get up and go back to the playroom. However we decided to wait for the girls to get here. They arrived with Grandma and Grandpa on the train which was way cool for them. Just after that Daddy showed up and we were able to go back to the playroom. Skyler beat his father in fuzball and then he discovered the basketball hoop. So for the next 15 mins. he shot baskets. I couldn't believe it! All that movement was so so so good for him and I was so proud of him for being so brave. We all just kinda hung out for the rest of the evening, but there was one more big suprise and Daddy and Star left around 7 to go and pick it up. While they were gone Mommy and Bree had some girl time we just hung out and cuddled it was perfect. Out of all the kids Skyler included she is having the hardest time. It really just breaks my heart. She has been so compassionate and loving towards Skyler since this whole thing began it just proves to me the love of family knows no bounds. Kids are such amazing examples to us and this whole event has really just strengthened that bound between siblings. Well around 8 Daddy and Star came back and guess who was with them...

POPS!!!

It was one of the first times he smiled with this whole ordeal, and I felt a wave of relief just wash over me. For the rest of the evening Skyler played with pops and his sisters. They were here until 10pm.

Over all this was a great day, we had many little advances towards our big goals. We are so thankful for all of you who have been able to come and visit Skyler it truly helps him to see all of his friends and family. Also a HUGE thanks to all of you out there who have been praying for my little man, it has been felt and I ask that you continue to pray for him as each day he needs all the help he can get.

Love,
Leona and Family
