I AM TIRED!!!! Now onto to Skylers day :).
Today has been a good day. For the most part we rested and Skyler slept off the rest of all the drugs from surgery. Skyler has been able to get out of bed 3 times. This morning around 9:15 he, with help from mom and our nurse, was able to sit up, stand, and take one step forward and one step backwards sit down and lay back down. This was huge, it was also incredibly painful for him. We were able to get him comfortable in bed at about a 45^ angle sitting up. This is good for his lungs not being flat and also the little bit of gravity is good for his bowels. He also attempted to blow in the "breathalizer", thats kind what it is. He has to blow in a tube and make a ball move up and down. His goal is to see how high the ball can go. He does this because it helps to prevent pnemonia and fevers so its good. His first attempt he could barely move it. However it did move so that was in and of itself an accomplishment. Then around 11:30 was our next attempt at getting out of bed. This time Skyler was not so excited to participate with the program, but he did he sat up, stood up and took 4 steps forwards and backwards, sat down, and layed down all with help of course. BUT IT WAS HUGE! We were all so proud of him. It is just amazing how brave and strong this little boy is.
when noon rolled around we were wiped out and we napped for and hour until the nurse came in to do all the vitals and good stuff. His vitals have remained stable all but his Oxgyen levels. This is normally for anyone who is on these narcotics, the body becomes really relaxed and sleepy and that effects how deep all your breaths are. So we called to the Drug doctors, can't remember their names, because we were a little worried that his doses might be a little to high. While we were waiting for their response, we decided to attempt another walk. Skyler blew our socks off he sat up, stood up, and walked 8 steps and then backwards to his bed sat down and layed down. This was so much more than we could ask for. This time he also did not have as much pain and was better at telling us how he felt. Scott arrived with the girls around 2pm, and it was so nice to have everyone together again. Skyler was getting sleepy so he took a nap and daddy stayed with him while I took Star and Bree on a little tour of the hospital. I took them to the playroom where they were making doctor dolls. These little dolls are made and donated to the hospital so that kids and their siblings can have a better understanding of what is going on with their body or their brother or sisters body. We learned how to put in an IV and the kids even got to put in their dolls. All the stuff they used was real hospital stuff that Skyler is using right now. They put on heart monitors gave them an epideral, a stomach tube and made sure their doll had a magic button.
The girls were the best thing for Skyler he perked right up and was really happy. They are dressed like that because of the dolls not because of Skyler.
Today Skyler got SPOILED in such an amazing way. When daddy got here he brought lots of gifts from the place that he works. One of the Ladies got Skyler 3 games and some action figures. He was feeling well enough that he wanted to play a game of memory, and he spanked us.
He also got a Nintendo DS and two games from the company Daddy works for, Credit Union Data Processing. AMAZING!!!! He was so happy and excited!!! So to any of you CUDPers out there THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! oh and yes I got all teary eyed at all of this wonderful stuff.
The drug doctors decided not to change his dose until tomorrow because he is sitting comfortably and it is allowing him to move around. He also got visited today by Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Tabitha, and Uncle Steven. He got lots of fun coloring activites to do that he is looking forward to and some books to read as well. By the time everyone left Skyler was exhausted and ready for a rest. They did have to give him some more valium for anxiety and for some pain. Today has been so much better than I could have asked for. Skyler has not complained once, he has done everything they have asked of him no matter how hard it may be. I am so very very very proud of him.
Thanks for all your prayers and support.
Love,
Leona
